The Fahan School Athletics Team produced an outstanding overall result at the Southern SATIS Athletics Carnival at the Domain Athletics Centre on Wednesday 24 September. The team place 2nd in the Girls Aggregate Trophy and 2nd in the Girls Junior Trophy. The Under 15s and the Under 16s also took out their respective age group pennants.

The following students achieved a first placing in the listed events:

Tessa Johns– Open 1500m.

Georgia Parry– Open Shot Put.

Liz Browne– U16 100m.

Jessica Robinson, Olivia Young, Charlotte Bell, Liz Browne– U16 4 x 100m Relay.

Mel Johnson– U16 Shot Put.

Jessica Robinson– U16 Discus.

Hannah Edgell– U16 Javelin (SSATIS Meet Record).

Amy Pailthorpe– U15 90m Hurdles.

Emily Canham– U15 Discus, Javelin (SSATIS Meet Record).

Jane Hickie– U14 Shot Put.

Saffy Warden, Bella Farid, Lucy Taranto, Sophie Young– U13 4 x 100m Relay.

While we commend these girls, it is important to acknowledge the efforts of all members of the team. The importance of a whole-team effort can be best illustrated by the performance of team reserve Esther Gardner. Esther is an U14 competitor but, at short notice, she ran in the U15 800m and 1500m, gaining 17 points for the team. The U15 Girls won their pennant by 1.5 points. As always, it’s not about winning. It is about being a team player. So, well done to everyone who competed on the day.

Also, thank you to parent Georgie Cottier, ex-staff member Graham Broomhall and staff members Mr John Moss, Mrs Emily Hogan, Miss Sally Hamilton and Mr Al Foot for assisting on the day. And a special thank you to Mr Robert Owens and assistants for preparing the team expertly.
