The children at SDNP Malang were asked to think about why they felt proud of their nation and of being a citizen of Indonesia. The responses from the children can be found below.
Hello, my nickname is Anto, my full name is Rahaditya Destianto.
If you at Fahan asked me why I am proud to be an Indonesian, there
are many reasons. One of them is because Indonesia has so many
cultures. If you try to count the number of languages used across
Indonesia, I am sure you will have difficulty, there are more than
one hundred.
Let us suppose you are in Java, the language used in the Malang
region and Surabaya region already differs although the two places
is only two hours drive away from each other.
Other than languages, we have plenty of natural beauties. Our
continent is well known as the spice islands for the many spices
we have.
I'll send you a postcard containing a picture of beutiful
Indonesia. And I'll also send you a bookmark with Indonesian
Puppet's motif. Wayang kulit (traditional puppet made of sheep
skin) is a traditional art from Java.
It is normally played for a whole night by a 'dalang' (puppet
player). The story based on the Ramayana and Mahabarata legend.
Other than wayang kulit, there is also wayang performed by people
like an opera.
Would you be able to tell us and send us cultural related
materials from Tasmania? We have seen the video sent by Mr.
Lelong, but we want to know more about your city (hobart), not the
whole Tasmania.
My friend, besaide I am proud of the natural wealth of Indonesia,
I am also proud of the struggle of my people during the 350 years
of Dutch colonisation, 3.5 years of Japanese, British and
Portugese colonisation
Our people keep the spirit to struggle until we obtained our
independence. Some of our bravest heroes are: Kapitan Patimura
(from Maluku) Pangeran Diponegoro (from central java) Teuku Umar
and his wife Cut Nya Dhien and many more.
Although Jakarta as the capital of Indonesia is currently heavily
poluted, we still have enormous area of tropical forest. Our
country is so green, it is often named as the Emerald of the
Equator.
For all those reason, I am proud for being an Indonesian.
regards,
Anto
