Religion and Indonesia
    Date: Tuesday August 6th

    Dear friends,
    Our school starts at 7.00 am it^s over at five to one. We wear white shirts and red skirts/trousers, white stockings and black shoes. On Friday and Saturday we wear light brown shirts and dark brown skirts/trousers (It iss our scouting uniform)
    On Friday , we study from 7 o'clock up to ten thirty (for Islam students). For the students who have other religions; - Roman Catholic, Christians, Budhists and Hindhus - they have their religion lesson at school up to 12;30. on Friday.
    We eat rice and fried eggs, fried tahu/tempe (made of soy bean) or another meal for breakfast. For our main course, We mean, our main food is rice.
    We also celeberate big and holy days for every religion, for example; Christmas day,
    Easter day, Maulid nabi (the birth of our Prophet Muhammad)
    , Muharam (new year for Islam people),
    Waisak (the new year for Budhist followers)
    Nyepi (the new year for hindust-including Hindhu Bali) , Idul fitri,Idhul Ad'ha (slaughtering animals,goats cows etc.-The animals are sacrificed).
    Actually,there are still many big days according to the religions.
    You know, there are so many relions in Indonesia.The religions are grouped into five big religions, namely ; Islam,Roman Catholic, christian, Hindhu, Buddhist (Konghucu, animism and dynamism are included in group Buddhism).
    We think the animism and dynamism influences are very strong in Jawa, even if people have they own religion.
    Most Javanese have market days system, It's included in Javanese Calender., For example : Today is ; Monday,5 August 1996.In Javanese system we say it's :Senin (Monday), Pahing,20 Mulud1929 Saka..So we have Pahing, pon,Wage, kliwon, Legi (five days in a week) ; Suro, Sapar, Mulud, Bakda mulud, Jumadilawal, Jumadilakir, Rejeb, Ruwah,P asa, Sawal, Selo, besar (12 months in a year).
    Javanese also have their own Alphabetical system.

    By the way we have you read our folk tales about Roro Jonggrang and Nyi Roro Kidul ?
