Fahan School’s Sailing Team recently returned from Auckland, New Zealand, after representing Fahan and Australia at the 2026 Secondary Schools Interdominion Team Racing Championships, held at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club from 29 September to 3 October. The Championships brought together school sailing teams from across Australia and New Zealand for five days of competitive team racing.

Fahan qualified for the international event following a strong performance at the Australian Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships in Hobart, where the team finished as the third-placed all-female team. Eight Fahan sailors went on to compete in the Female Division alongside fellow Australian representatives Ascham School and Moreton Bay College.

Throughout the regatta, students put their teamwork, communication and tactical sailing skills to the test against international competition. The experience provided valuable opportunities to develop their sailing abilities, build resilience and form connections within the wider school sailing community.

The team also travelled alongside The Hutchins School Sailing Team, with both Tasmanian schools supporting each other throughout the competition. Fahan's team was coached by alumna Jorja Cooper (Class of 2022), with Will and Gaye Reynolds accompanying the students as Team Managers.

The Championships marked another significant opportunity for Fahan's sailing program, highlighting the pathways available for students to develop their skills and compete at national and international levels. With School Sailing recommencing in Term 4, students will have further opportunities to get involved in sailing and team racing.
