Fiona Short

Head of House – Fenton. Teacher of English and Humanities.

Fiona is a passionate, caring and committed educator, with over 25 years’ experience working in the education sector. She has worked as a teacher assistant, boarding house tutor, primary school teacher, LOTE teacher (Indonesian), Leading Teacher, Early Years Network Leader and Head of Boarding. Her current roles at Fahan are as a Senior Schooll teacher and Head of House. 

 

Fiona has an Arts degree from the University of Tasmania, with majors in English and Indonesian. In 1999 she moved to Victoria to complete her Bachelor of Teaching degree at the University of Melbourne. Her specialist areas were primary teaching from Prep – Year 8, as well as Secondary Drama to Year 12. She also completed a Master of Education degree at Monash University where her thesis explored a variety of issues related to boarding. Fiona values life-long learning and in 2016 she completed a Graduate Certificate in International Education at the University of Melbourne, specialising in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate. 

 

During her time in Victoria, Fiona taught all primary classes, as well as specialist Indonesian and Performing Arts. She also led whole school initiatives in Student Wellbeing and Inquiry Learning at her school of over 800 students. Fiona began working at Fahan in mid 2020 as the Head of Boarding, accompanied by her daughter, Aurora. Upon the closure of the boarding house at the end of 2021, Fiona discovered a love of teaching Year 7 and 8 students. 

 

Fiona is passionate about working collaboratively and developing strong relationships with all involved in the school community.
