Fiona has worked in boarding for over eighteen years and firmly believes that boarders are the heart of a school!
After completing a Bachelor of Arts in Tasmania, she moved to Melbourne to undertake a Bachelor of Teaching and found a position at Caulfield Grammar School as a residential tutor. In 2006, inspired by her work in the boarding house, Fiona completed a Master of Education degree at Monash University where her thesis explored a variety of issues related to boarding. Fiona values life-long learning and in 2016 she completed a Graduate Certificate in International Education at the University of Melbourne. During her time in Victoria, Fiona taught all primary classes, as well as specialist Indonesian and Performing Arts. She also led whole school initiatives in Student Wellbeing and Inquiry Learning.
Fiona returned to Hobart at the beginning of 2017 and most recently worked as an Early Years Network Leader for the Department of Education. This position involved working with teachers from Kindergarten to Year Two, helping them to reflect on, and strengthen their early years pedagogy.
Fiona is passionate about working collaboratively and developing strong relationships with all involved in boarding and the wider school community. Her priority is making sure all the boarders feel happy, safe and cared for, using the Fahan values as her foundation. Fiona’s three-year-old daughter, Aurora is loving all the ‘big sisters’ she has suddenly acquired and they are both delighted to be part of the Fahan family.
