Zay Zin Min Aein

Laboratory Technician

All

Zay’s passion for science began on a rainy school day in Myanmar. While many students complained about the gloomy weather, her science teacher offered a new perspective—explaining how rain, though muddy and inconvenient, is essential for the survival of plants and animals. That simple shift in thinking opened Zay’s eyes to the beauty of science and its power to help us see the world differently. From then on, science was no longer just a subject—it became a way of understanding life.

She pursued a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Molecular Biology) at Deakin University, Melbourne, graduating in 2018, and later earned a Master of Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Tasmania in 2023, focusing her research on drug toxicity in liver cancer cells in a PC2 laboratory.

With experience in both clinical and research laboratories, Zay now works as a part-time Laboratory Technical Officer at the University of Tasmania’s College of Medicine, supporting students and collaborating with academic staff in biochemistry and microbiology, helping to shape the next generation of healthcare and medical science professionals. Zay’s passion for mentoring grew through high school outreach at UTAS, where she guided students in hands-on science activities. One memorable birthday spent helping them run DNA gel electrophoresis left her tired but deeply fulfilled, reminding her of the joy in inspiring young minds.

Beyond the lab, Zay enjoys drawing, learning piano, hiking, meditation, and exploring new cuisines and great coffee. She is committed to inspiring young minds, encouraging them to pursue their passions, and reminding them that—with determination and curiosity—anything is possible.
