On Friday 24 February, the Parents and Friends Association hosted its annual Sunset Under the Sails evening with the largest turnout ever. More than 150 parents, staff and children showed up for what has become a popular event on the Fahan School social calendar.

The hardworking committee couldn’t have asked for better weather. The mercury hovered around the mid 30s, with the balmy weather creating quite a thirst that kept the tireless volunteers busy filling drink orders.

Guests enjoyed some jazz, blues and soul music from Soul Fish duo, Andrea Smith and Simon Reid. They were so popular that quite a few parents spoke to them about performing at private functions.

Five of our student leaders were on hand to distribute the free pizza to the mingling crowd. A very big thank you must go to Alice Morris, Alice Nicholl, Anna Kudor, Georgia Johnston and Sophie Van Breda, as well as Abbie Rothery who again took some beautiful photographs of the guests.

Principal, Tony Freeman, welcomed the new families and introduced the teachers who have started at Fahan School this year. He spoke about all the exciting building work happening in the School - in the Octagon, Nateby and the main block – and about the excellent academic achievements of the 2011 Year 12 students.

Mr Freeman acknowledged the vital role the P&F plays in the Fahan School community.  “I would encourage all of our parents to become involved with the P&F as it is a truly integral part of our School’s community.”

He then handed over to P&F President, Carl Cazaly, who expressed his delight at seeing such a large attendance, especially so many new faces.

Carl thanked Birgitta Browning, Gillian Vosper, Nicole Spence, Janine Ransley, Janet Johnson, Sally Ferguson and Susan Hodgman who spent so much time putting the event together. He then repeated Mr Freeman’s invitation for people to join the Association and spoke for a few minutes on the P&F’s plans for 2012.

The evening wrapped up around 9.30pm with everyone having enjoyed themselves immensely.

If you would like to contact Andrea from Soul Fish, please contact 0448 064 951 as she kindly donated her time to the P&F for our benefit.
