On 12 and 13 October, Fahan School held their Alumni Reunion Weekend, welcoming back alumni from 1942-46, 1952-56, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1987, 1992, 2002, 2007 and 2011.
The lunchtime bell on Friday signaled the ‘kick off’ to the traditional and hotly contested Alumni versus Student hockey and netball matches.
“The Alumni team always do very well in the hockey matches and did not disappoint this time, beating the students by three goals,” said Kathryn Thomas, President of the Fahan School Alumni Association.
However, the Alumni weren’t so lucky at netball, going down to the Students in the end.
“It was wonderful to see such camaraderie between the players, proving that the Fahan team spirit is alive and well. Even the crowd got behind the teams, cheering on from the sidelines,” said Kathryn.
Friday evening saw 120 ladies attend the Welcome Back to Fahan Cocktail Party, held in the Music School.
“I was delighted to see so many of the younger girls return this year,” said Kathryn. “We had a great turn out of 2011 Leavers, as well as a record number of interstate guests.”
Tony Freeman thanked the Alumni Association for the fantastic job they do in promoting Fahan School to future generations and in the local community.
On Saturday, the ladies gathered in the TM Hall for High Tea, reminiscing with old friends whilst enjoying a selection of fine teas, savouries and cakes, even using the occasion to raise funds for The Pride of Fahan Alumni Awards.
“A big thank you to Year 9 student, Bryarne Duldig, who generously donated her afternoon to play piano. What a talented young lady and a wonderful reminder of the rich musical education our daughters’ get at Fahan School,” said Kathryn.
“Thank you also to all the ladies who dedicate their time to making the FSAA so successful,” said Kathryn. “We’ve had three more come on board, taking our total number to nine but we are always looking for more to join our team.”
