In the last week of term, our Year 9 students celebrated the final session of the Generations Connect: Tech Together program at Southern Cross Care Sandown Apartments.
As part of the term’s Lumina 9 “Give” theme, students spent the term visiting residents - sharing stories, learning together, and forming meaningful intergenerational connections. Through these regular visits, they helped residents build confidence with technology while gaining insight into the wisdom and experiences of an older generation.
For the final gathering, many students brought their families to meet their new friends and join in the celebration. The afternoon was filled with music, laughter, and conversation, with Eve performing a solo accompanied by Nina on guitar, and residents Wayne and Graham delighting everyone with their own performances. Though it marked the end of the program, the atmosphere was one of warmth and friendship- it felt more like a fond “see you soon.”
In partnership with COTA (Council on the Ageing) Tasmania’s Digital Mentorship Program, Tech Together enabled young people and older Tasmanians to share digital skills, foster friendships, and experience the power of community.
The program was a wonderful experience for all involved, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the future.
