Years 11 and 12 are the culmination of a Fahan education - a pre-tertiary program of academic and personal growth in a secure and supportive environment. Our senior students prepare for tertiary study or the workforce within a challenging and enriching academic program tailored to all abilities, where every girl is nurtured and supported to achieve her personal best.
Girls follow a broad program of study in Year 11 before focusing on more specific areas of interest in Year 12, working towards the Tasmanian Certificate of Education and, for many, university entrance. As senior students, they set the standard for younger girls - and the School thrives on their leadership.

The Fahan Years 11 and 12 Difference
A Breadth of Pre-Tertiary Choice
In Years 11 and 12, girls select fewer subjects than in Year 10, but from a far wider array of options - spanning the Creative Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Languages, Mathematics, Science, Technologies and VET pathways. Teaching lines are built around student choices, so the maximum number of girls can study their first-choice subjects.
For students who have yet to settle on a career or study path, we encourage a broad Year 11 program that keeps every pathway open - while girls with exceptional Year 10 results may proceed directly to pre-tertiary courses on the recommendation of their teachers.
The Cooperating Schools Agreement
Fahan's extensive senior subject selection is made possible through a Cooperating Schools Agreement between Fahan School, The Hutchins School and St Michael's Collegiate. Students may undertake up to two subjects each year at a cooperating school without incurring additional tuition fees, with transport organised by the schools between lesson blocks.
The result is genuine breadth and flexibility: wherever possible girls study at Fahan, and every effort is made to meet each student's first choices.
Leadership and Service
Senior students are the leaders of the School. Girls take on House responsibilities, coach junior teams, assist with the Outdoor Education program, serve as Big Sisters to younger students and contribute through the Pastoral Care program - alongside representing Fahan in public speaking, debating, Amnesty International activities, musical and dramatic performances, and sport.
Service learning is central to these years. In Year 12, students choose two charities to support, and the cohort's fundraising efforts throughout the year are directed towards these causes - a meaningful way for girls to lead with purpose and give back before they graduate.
Every Year 11 girl is encouraged to put herself forward for a formal leadership role - it takes courage, and it reflects how highly the privilege of serving our community is valued.
A Pathway for Every Girl
Our staff guide each girl through subject selection, pathway planning and university entry, helping her build a program that leads to her desired future - whether that's a degree course, vocational training or the workforce. Fahan's graduates take many different paths, and each one has value.
By the time she leaves Fahan at the end of Year 12, every girl is well-prepared to face whatever the future holds - with the knowledge of herself, her strengths and her values to carry her there.
